Education

"...Harriet is 15 years old and is studying for her GCSEs. Just by creating the eye map (see Harriets demo below), she actually learnt it all quite effortlessly. She is going to continue revising for her exams using Crystal Mapping as she finds it exciting.
..it really is quite fantastic what can be done..."

(J. Malden, London, UK)

Crystal Maps turn information into knowledge. Creating and presenting maps on any subject aids thinking and learning and provides a fresh insight for teachers and students alike.

Teachers can use it to plan courses and prepare and deliver classwork and students can use it to help revise for exams and create original and exciting project work.

One of the main reasons Crystal Mapping is so useful in education is that it provides a mechanism for Visual Learning and shows how all the pieces of a particular subject fit together so that the bigger picture is never lost in the detail.

Visual learning using Crystal Mapping works by using pictures, colour, logic and connection to graphically show how the whole is made up of the idividual parts. This reveals patterns and relationships and stimulates creative thinking which in turn helps the brain to process and absorb data and improves learning and understanding. Just as importantly though is that its fun!

"Crystal Mapping allowed me to organise my thoughts and present my ideas to my tutors and colleagues so they totally understood the subject behind my presentation. I wanted something different from the typical power-point slides and feel that Crystal Mapping worked great!"

(Gemma Caves - University Student, UK)

Research shows that a large proportion of us are Visual thinkers i.e. our main thought and learning mode is to make mental pictures of whatever it is we are thinking about. Forming mental pictures helps us to collate, store and recall information when required.

Mind Mapping techniques established in the 1960's and 70's pioneered work in this area and show how graphical and visual ways of working with information help people to recall data, learn and pass exams.

Crystal Mapping utilizes the Visual Learning theme and makes it even more effective as an educational technique by adding greater emphasis to the holistic nature of learning.

Through using a circular methodology to emphasize inclusivity Crystal Mapping clearly shows how all the individual aspects of the same subject form part of the whole.

Additionally we wanted to make the learning process 'fun' (especially but not exclusively for younger children!). One of the ways we've tried to do this is to make map building an imaginative process and the 'finished product' of lasting creative value as well as being instructive.

So when students of any age create a Crystal Map it's not simply a process of cramming for exams it's also a creative endeavour and they can take pride in the end result. Not only do Crystal Maps help fix stuff into your memory they are fun to build and great to share with friends and to come back to time and time again.

Anyone can use Crystal Mapping to discover just how easy it is to learn things.

If you're at school you can use it as a great way of doing homework, completing class projects and revising for (and passing) exams. If you're in further or higher education you can use Crystal Mapping to help you plan, revise and add originality to your work (which should also help you get better marks!).

If you're a teacher you can create maps which will not only help your students more easily understand your subject but also inspire them. Crystal Mapping's presentation capacity will help you present and deliver information in any classroom environment.
